Crazy, Stupid, Love

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Starring: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Jonah Bobo, Marisa Tomei
Director: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa
Rating: 3/5

Bringing together a super impressive cast has become a bit of a regular occurrence in recent years when it comes to romantic comedy - and Crazy, Stupid, Love is continuing on this fine tradition.

This time around directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa has blended comedy talent such as Steve Carell and Emma Stone with actors that we are more use to seeing in more dramatic roles such as Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore.

At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Carell) is living the dream--good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart.

But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his "perfect" life quickly unravels.

Worse, in today's single world, Cal, who hasn't dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Gosling).

And despite Cal's makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can't be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

For the most this is a witty script that intertwines the characters and the loves lines beautifully - the twist with Emma Stone’s character was one that I definitely didn’t see coming.

The cast really is superb with Carell and Gosling banter well together, it’s hard to believe that this is Gosling’s first comedy role.

He oozes charm and wit and the scene were he is ‘educating’ Cal in the ways of women are some of the best in the movie.

And it is Gosling who dies the steal the show as the self assured and suave Jacob - and while he is a serial womaniser he is a character that you can’t help but like and cheer for when he finally meets an unexpected match in Hannah - the superb Emma Stone.

Crazy, Stupid, Love is a fun movie that many of us can relate to; a marriage that has gone a little stale, our first crush and the excitement of a new relationship with someone we didn’t expect.

This is one of the best rom-coms of 2011 with some really likeable characters, some great moments and fab performances

Ok so the movie was a tad long and I didn’t like the ending too much but this is a sweet natured movie with some really great laughs.

In all Crazy, Stupid, Love is a heart-felt movie that depicts the highs and lows of this mysterious thing called love.

Crazy, Stupid, Love is out now.
