Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction

The nineties was one of the best decades for movies and was a period where many films broke the mould and new ground.

We have already looked at some of the movie that defined the noughties and now it is time to look at the movie the nineties will be remembered for.

- Jurassic Park

Steven Spielberg was back in the director's chair in 1993 with Jurassic Park as he returned to the blockbuster.

The movie was a big screen adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel and a bidding war for the movie right had started even before the book had been published.

And seeing as Spielberg had kicked off the blockbuster idea two decades before with Jaws he was just the man for this project.

And Jurassic Park broke new ground with the use of computer-generated imagery and the way to bring a huge vision to the big screen was changed forever.

The movie went on to gross in excess of $900 million at the global box office and was one of the most successful movies of the decade - not to mention it paved the way for blockbusters to come.

Another landscape that changed during the nineties was the animation genre. Beauty and the Beast was the first animation movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars but it was Pixar and Toy story that changed the genre forever.

In 1995 Toy Story hit the big screen and was the first film in history to be produced using only computer animation.

This movie really threw the book on boundaries out of the window as Pixar created a movie with a really timeless feel - not to mention a group of characters that everyone fell in love with.

Toy Story marked the arrival of the greatest animation franchises of all time and the way that animation films were made would never be the same.
