Chris Evans In Captain America

Chris Evans In Captain America

Ok so everyone has a favourite Marvel Comic hero - my personally is the no nonsense Wolverine; and no it has nothing to do with the fact that he is played by the very lovely Hugh Jackman!

And this week we are set to be treated to the latest character to be added to that list... Captain America - yes Chris Evans is back to take on the role of the selfless Steve Rogers.

So to celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of the best marvel Comic heroes that have graced the big screen.

- Spider Man

The role of Spider Man proved to be the catalyst of Tobey Maguire's career as he took on the role of Peter Parker for the first time back in 2002.

The webslinging hero was an instant hit as it took the comic book movie to a new level and two sequels followed.

The movies were all made under the watchful gaze of filmmaker Sam Raimi as he blended the action with Parker's inner struggle of keeping his alter ego a secret.

A new version of the hero is set to reach the big screen next year as a reboot in the franchise sees Andrew Garfield take over the central role.

- Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr saw his career revitalised when he took on the role of Tony Stark back in 2008 - stepping into the big budget blockbuster for the first time in his career.

It's hard to see anyone else but Downey Jr taking on the role of witty, arrogant playboy Stark who, after a near death experience, wants to lead the fight against evil.

Jon Favreau's 2008 movie perfectly balanced the action with humour, as well as attracting an all star support cast that included Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges.

We will see Downey Jr return next summer in The Avengers as the selfish Stark teams up with the selfless Steve Rogers - so excited about this movie!!!

- Blade

You have to back eleven years for when Blade first graced the big screen kicking every vampire's ass- this was a far cry from Twilight!

Wesley Snipes has taken on the title character in all three of the movies, the first by far being the best.

Blade is a tortured soul a day walker, half human and half vampire, the thirst being the only vampire weakness he suffers with.

Under the wing of Whistler, played by Kris Kristofferson, the pair hunt vampires by night.

- Wolverine

And here we are at my fave!! X-Men graced the big screen for the first time back in 2000 - a movie which kicked off the career for Hugh Jackman outside of Australia.

Loner, fighter, no memory to say that Wolverine is a tortured character would be a little bit of an understatement.

The 2000 movie sees him haunted by his past, even he is not quite sure what that is, before being a reluctant recruit of Professor Xavier and the X-Men.

The movie spawned two sequels, the second giving Wolverine some of the answers that he was looking for. He will be returning to the role of a second standalone movie.

- Thor

This summer has belonged to Marvel Comic movies as we were introduced to Thor for the very first time.

First time blockbuster director Kenneth Branagh handed the role to Aussie star Chris Hemsworth - a role that has shot his star rocketing.

Selfish, arrogant, heir to the throne of Asgaard Thor is banished by his father for starting a war with the Frost Giants - break years of uneasy peace.

Left on earth with no power Thor has to rely on the kindness of Jane Foster as he tries to stop his brother from wreaking havoc on earth.

Thor proved to be one of the best Marvel movies so far and a sequel is in the pipeline, But Hemsworth will be back next year in The Avengers.

- Captain America

This week brings Steve Rogers to the big screen as Chris Evans takes on the role for the very first time.

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family.

Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army.

However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth.

Captain America: The First Avenger is released 29th July.
