Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara is set to see her star rocket in 2012 as she takes on the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The actress kicked off her career in 2005 but this collaboration with director David Fincher is set to be the biggest role of her career so far.

Urban Legends: Bloody Mary marked Mara’s acting debut - however it was only a very small role.

Over the next couple of years she concentrated on TV work with the roles in the likes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Women’s Murder Club and The Cleaner.

She returned to movies towards the end of the noughties with Youth In Revolt and Tanner Hall but it was Nightmare on Elm Street that was her biggest role.

She led the cast as she took on the role of Nancy Holbrook in the remake of the 1984 movie of the same name.

But it was last year when she really caught everyone’s attention as she teamed up with Fincher for the very first time in The Social Network.

She took on the role of Mark Zuckerberg’s girlfriend who inspired the development of Facebook by breaking up with him.

The movie saw her star alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield in what was to be one of the most talked about movies of the year.

The Social Network went on to feature heavily during the awards season and was amongst the favourites to pick up the Best Picture Oscar - however it lost out to The King’s Speech.

We haven’t seen her on the big screen since the release of that movie… until now as she takes over the role of Lisbeth Salander.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the very popular Stieg Larsson novel and it is a movie that is set to send her star rocketing.

This is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year as Mara teams up with Daniel Craig as two investigators trying to solve the disappearance that is decades old.

Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence.

Nearly forty years later a journalist by the name of Mikael Blomqvist gets an unusual assignment. He’s contacted by Harriet’s uncle, Henrik Vanger, who wants him to find out what really happened to Harriet.

Mikael takes on the job, with help from mysterious biker girl and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.

This unlikely pair form a fragile bond as they dig into the sinister past of this family and find out just how far they're prepared to go to protect themselves - and each other.

For her performance in the movie Mara has already picked up Breakthrough Performance gong at the National Board of Review.

She has also received a Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama nomination at the Golden Globes; she will be up against Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton.

The actress is currently Lawless, another Terrence Malick movie, as she stars alongside Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale.

The actress has also been linked to an unnamed Osama Bin Laden movie, which will be the next project for Oscar winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow.
