Susan Storm

Susan Storm

Next week sees the release of X-Men trilogy on Blu-Ray, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine in May, and so FemaleFirst takes a look some of the sexiest superheroes.

1. Jessica Alba: Susan Storm
Fantastic Four (2005); Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

Susan Storm, Alba’s character in the Fantastic Four franchise, was actually voted the sexiest super-heroine of all time in a 2007 poll by cinema-advertising bigwigs Pearl & Dean.

Much of the poll was rubbish, Nicolas Cage made the list for Ghost Rider, presumably before his head turned into a flaming skull, but few would refute Alba’s claim to top the female list.

The character might have the power of invisibility, but when she’s on show, she stands as one truly sexy sight.

2. Halle Berry: Storm
X-Men (2000); X2 (2003); X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

Another A-lister drawn to the world of the comic book, Halle Berry now has serious form in the genre, her first and sexiest endeavour coming courtesy of the tempestuous Storm in the X-Men trilogy.

Along with her crackling good looks, this wielder of the winds can manipulate the weather patterns (making her the ideal holiday companion). Whenever she’s in front of camera, her on-screen electricity sparks.

3. Michelle Pfeiffer: Catwoman
Batman Returns (1992)

Before Christian Bale made the Bat-like hero his own, it was Michael Keaton who held the keys to the Bat Cave and in 1992’s Batman Returns, the ever-gorgeous Catwoman almost gave him a good licking.

Halle Berry stroked the character to life as a big-screen lead in critical flop Catwoman (and, choosing not to cry over spilt milk, dutifully collected her Razzi Award), but it is Pfeiffer’s feline female, the slinky Selina Kyle, who gets most men purring.

4. Jennifer Garner: Elektra
Daredevil (2003); Elektra (2005)

Her first outing in Elektra’s revealing garb, Daredevil, fizzled at the box office, Garner’s now-husband, Ben Affleck, stumbling as the blind crime-fighter, but her character was plucked from the wreckage and granted her own showcase, 2005’s Elektra, in which the leading lady high-kicked her way into many men’s affections.

Whenever she wielded her big pair of ninja weapons, her ‘Sai’, the sighs from the comic-book fraternity were audible.

5. Helen Slater: Supergirl
Supergirl: The Movie (1984)

Few women would dare to carry off the ‘big underpants’ look in public, but Supergirl, brought to life by Helen Slater, took her silly costume in her super-stride.

What’s even more amazing is that she pulls it off (not literally: this is a family film), overcoming a terribly weak plot (she’s Superman’s cousin, who also comes crashing to Earth), to project an image of cheerful, cheerleader-like cuteness.

Thankfully, while she embraced the red-pants-over-tights look, she did not opt for a matching bra.

The X-Men Trilogy Blu-ray Collection will be released on 20 April from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Take a look with male superheroes made the list.
