Skyfall

Skyfall

Skyfall has picked up eight nominations at this year's Bafta Awards however it will not compete for Best Film.

It will battle it out for Best British Film while Judi Dench and Javier Bardem have picked up supporting nominations.

Lincoln has dominated the Bafta Award nominations as it picked up ten nods including Best Film.

Les Miserables is another Oscar favourite and it was only one nomination behind with nine nods - it will do battle with Lincoln for Best Film.

And that category is set to be a tough one as Argo, Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty - which is picking up awards left, right and centre - are all also nominated.

Skyfall is the red hot favourite for the Outstanding British Film however it does find itself up against Anna Karenina, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables and Seven Psychopaths.

While Lincoln was nominated in ten categories there was a shock when it came to Best Director as Steven Spielberg has been overlooked. There was also no nomination for Tom Hooper for his work on Les Miserables.

It is an exciting category none the less as Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow, Quentin Tarantino, Ang Lee and Michael Haneke have all been recognised.

Daniel Day Lewis remains the favourite for Best Actor but Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck, Hugh Jackman and Joaquin Phoenix have all also been nominated.

Best Actress however is a little more wide open and Brit Helen Mirren finds herself up against Emanuelle Riva, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Marion Cotillard.

Cotillard had been the pick of many to dominate the awards circuit for her performance in Rust and Bone but in recent weeks we have seen support grow for both Lawrence and Chastain - all three are expected to be in the running for the Oscar.

Amour has been the surprise this year as it has picked up a handful of nods including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not In The English Language.

Earlier this week the Rising Star nominees were revealed with Juno Temple
Andrea Riseborough, Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander and Suraj Sharma all recognised for their work and their potential - this is the only category that is decided by a public vote.
