Catwoman

Catwoman

All to often the villain of the piece is a man, it's always a man why is that? Anyway G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is breaking with tradition this week as The Baroness is brought to the big screen.

Played by Sienna Miller The Baroness is the first female baddie that we have had for a while so Femalefirst decided to look back over some of the best.

Catwoman - Michelle Pfeiffer

Michelle Pfeiffer donned the all in one catsuit to take on the role of Selina Kyle in Batman Begins in 1992, a sequel to the highly successful Batman in 1989.

The quiet and shy secretary transforms into Catwoman after she is attacked. With cat like agility she has nine lives and the ability to survive life threatening injuries until her lives run out.

She is a romantic interest for Bruce Wayne but an enemy for Batman.

Poison Ivy - Uma Thurman

Another Batman movie and another female villain, this time in the form of Poison Ivy played by Uma Thurman.

Appearing in Batman & Robin in 1997 Dr Pamela Isley is working in South America experimenting with the Vemon drug with Dr Jason Woodrue.

When the pair argue over the use of the drug Woodrue kills her by tipping a shelf of toxins onto her and she sinks into the ground. But with Pamela's death Poison Ivy is born killing Woodrue with a poisonous kiss.

She is the ultimate eco-terrorist using toxins from plants and her bloodstream for her criminal activities.

Jean Gray - Famke Janssen

Famke Janssen's Dr Jean Grey was the leading female character in the highly successful X-Men franchise that ran for three movies.

With powers of telekinesis and telepathy over the course of the second film she finds her powers growing and struggles to control them.

She sacrifices herself to save the rest of her team before returning in the third movie as her darker persona Phoenix.

When Jean was younger she struggled to contain her powers and Xavier locked away a large portion of that power, this created two powers within her.

As the Phoenix she has limitless telepathic powers and she side with Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants.

TX - Kristanna Loken

After a hiatus of over a decade Terminator was back in 2003 with a new villain to contend with. Kristanna Loken took on the role of the TX once again sent back to kill John Connor and stop him from becoming an enemy and leader of men in the future.

She was the first woman to become a TX in the movie franchise.

Mystique - Rebecca Romijn

Mystique was a regular character in the X-Men franchise, an ally of Magneto and an enemy of the X-Men.

Played by Rebecca Romijn Mystique is a shapeshifter whose natural appearance includes her blue skin and yellow eyes.

Over the course of the three movies she stays by Magneto's side breaking him out of prison and infiltrates Cerebro. However in the third movie she is abandoned by Magneto when she saves him from being injected by the cure, losing her ability herself.

Madison Lee - Demi Moore

Demi Moore, who looks rather good in this movie it has to be said, resurrected her fading career as Madison Lee in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

She is behind a plot to heist a series of titanium rings that, when combined, display a complete list of all individuals in the Federal Witness Protection Program.

And as a former Angel she proves to be a bit of a handful.

G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is released 7th August.
