Honeymoon

Honeymoon

Starring: Rose Leslie, Harry Treadaway

Director: Leigh Janiak

Rating: 3/5

If you are looking for a film that will send a shiver down your spine this weekend then look no further than Honeymoon.

Honeymoon sees Leigh Janiak make her feature film directorial debut as she teams up with the exciting acting talents Rose Leslie & Harry Treadaway: who have both enjoyed small screen success this year.

Young newlyweds Paul (Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie) travel to remote lake country for their honeymoon, where the promise of private romance awaits them.

Shortly after arriving, Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night.

As she becomes more distant and her behaviour increasingly peculiar, Paul begins to suspect something more sinister than sleepwalking took place in the woods.

I have to say, I really didn't know what to expect when I sat down to watch Honeymoon, but this is a horror film that really does have some great scary and rather chilling moments.

What really works for this film, are the central performances from Leslie and Treadaway. They really do thrown themselves in and deliver two incredibly committed performances.

This is a film that explores relationships and how relationships can change and the connection between the two lead actors really is incredibly strong.

The spark between them feels so genuine that you have total fear for them the minute they drive up to the secluded cabin... you just know their happiness is going to be short lived.

Janiak has to be applauded for the way that she builds the tension frame by frame. She really does create a movie that will have you holding your breath and on the edge of the seat.

While the ending is a little bit of a disappointment for me personally, I surely did enjoy the ride of getting there.

I like the way that the director handles the different genres of horror and drama and balance them so perfectly; this is as much a love story as it is a horror movie.

Honeymoon is by no means a perfect movie, but it is one that is entertaining and really does have a lot to offer.

Honeymoon is out now.
