Avatar can do no wrong at the moment as it remains at the top of the UK box office.

Despite being released back in December the movie has remained popular with cinema go-ers taking another £5.5 million at the box office this weekend.

The film was the toast of Hollywood this weekend as it picked up the Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes.

There was no move either at two as Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes comfortably held on. Leading man Robert Downey Jr picked up a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his performance in the central role.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel moved up one place from four to three and It's Complicated also moved up one place from five to four.

The first of the new entries came in the form of Up In The Air which opened at five. The movie stars George Clooney and is directed by Jason Reitman, the filmmaker behind Juno.

Denzel Washington's latest movie The Book of Eli, the apocalyptic drama, was another new entry at six. All of this week's top six movies broke the £1 million barrier.

Vampire film Daybreakers was this week's biggest faller as it dropped four places from three to seven.

The Road and Did You Hear About the Morgans? were both down to at eight and nine while St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold dropped one place to round off the top ten.
