Bill Condon has admitted to Twilight fans on Facebook that he is 'stoked' about being named director of Breaking Dawn.

The Dreamgirls filmmaker will take over the reigns for the fourth and final story in the Twilight Saga and he revealed that he was reading up on the series in preparation for shooting the film.

He wrote on Facebook: "I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I'm stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making Breaking Dawn.

"I'm pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I've read Breaking Dawn twice, re-watched Catherine [Hardwicke]'s and Chris [Weitz]'s movies two to three times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine's notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz's companion books, and even Volume One of the graphic novel here on my desk - my office is starting to look like Hot Topic.

"I realise that this barely qualifies me for 'newborn' status in the universe you've been living inside for a few years now, but a guy's gotta start somewhere.

"This is a final chapter in the best sense - not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout."

Condon was just one high profile director who was linked to the movie, Sofia Coppola and Gus Van Sant were also in the running.

This summer sees the release of Eclipse, the third movie in the series, after the $700 million plus success of new Moon last winter.
