Bryan Singer

Bryan Singer has admitted that he regrets walking away from the X-Men franchise.

The filmmaker was behind the first two movies that enjoyed major box office success before he handed over the reigns to Brett Ratner.

In an interview with Total Film he said: "I’m eternally intertwined with X-Men now. What takes an audience four hours to watch - the first two movies - took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it...it’s a shame."

"It’s weird for me to watch it, because I’m so close to the universe. And also Brett [Ratner] is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe."

Singer walked away from the third X-men movie to work on the return of Superman to the big screen, with plans to make it a successful franchise.

But Superman Returns, which starred Brandon Routh, was not as big a box office hit that was expected and future movies are currently in doubt.

"I don’t know, I don’t know. There are still issues. It’s one of those things where...it's so weird talking about stuff unless I’m about to ramp up and shoot it."
