Christopher Nolan has revealed that he did get emotional as he brought his Batman trilogy to a close.

The director will helm a third and final movie The Dark Knight Rises, which hits cinema screens next summer - and this will mark the end of his work on the Batman series.

And while Nolan admits that he did try and keep his emotions in check he did get a lump in his throat.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the filmmaker said: "I tend not to be too emotional on the set, I find that doesn't help me do my job.

"But you definitely get a little lump in your throat thinking that, 'Okay, this is going to be the last time we're going to be doing this.' It's been quite a journey."

When The Dark Knight Rises it will have been four years since a Batman movie graced the big screen - The Dark Knight going on to gross in excess of a billion dollars back in 2008.

Christian Bale is also back for the final time as Bruce Wayne and he will take on Bane, played by Tom Hardy, this time around.

The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July
