Courteney Cox has played down rumours of a Friends movie.

The actress claimed that she didn't know if it would go ahead but admitted that it's something that has been 'daydreamed about'.

Rumours surrounding a possible move to the silver screens have intensified over the last couple of years after the success of Sex and the City, a second movie being released at the end of last month.

Speaking to the L.A. Times she said: "I don't think it's going to happen. Would series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman want to write it? Because they'd have to be involved.

"I don't know... a lot of things would have to break just right for it to work. But we've daydreamed about it."

But the actress also suggested that the stage could be an option as Friends wouldn't be as restricted as Sex and the City.

"I wish we could do that with 'Friends'. The thing is, the characters from 'Sex and the City' hopped all over Manhattan. On 'Friends' we were always stuck in the apartment and that coffee house."

Cox hasn't been seen on the big screen since comedy movie Bedtime Stories but will be making a return next year when she reprises the role of Gail Weathers Riley in Scream 4.
