Good news all you Batman fans David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan have reportedly begun working on a sequel to 2008's The Dark Knight.

The movie was a critical and commercial when it was released and broke through the $1 billion barrier to become one of the biggest grossing movies of all time.

Despite immediate calls for a sequel it seemed that it may not go ahead with Christopher Nolan in the director's chair and there has been much speculation over whether we would see the caped crusader back on the big screen.

But, according to Deadline Hollywood, scriptwriter Goyer has left TV series FlashForward to concentrate on movies.

However it is still uncertain if Nolan will return to direct a third movie in the franchise.

But Goyer hinted last summer that the director may very well return telling ING:  "Well, I believe he said if we can find the story that he's happy with, that he would return.

Nolan's next picture sees him team up with Leonardo DiCaprio for Inception.
