Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 has stormed to the top of the UK box office taking a mammoth £23.7 million in its opening weekend.

Fans flocked to cinemas to say goodbye to the franchise as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint take on the roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron for the last time.

The movie has also topped the box office in the States and has grossed in excess of $542 million worldwide - and could become the first Potter movie to break $1 billion.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon fell to number two this week but was a distant second as it grossed £1.9 million. The movie has so far taken $782 million at the global box office in just a few weeks.

Bridesmaids was down to number three while Kung Fu Panda 2 also fell a single place to this week’s number four.

There was no move at five for The Guard while Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life remained at number six.

Zindagi Na Milege Dobara was the only other new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number seven.

Bad Teacher was this week’s biggest faller as it dropped four places from four to eight while The Hangover Part II fell two places to nine.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was up one as it rounded off the top ten - it is the only movie so far this year that has broken the $1 billion barrier.
