Hugh Jackman has called himself an honorary Brit and admits that he is excited about his Bafta nomination.

The actor picked up a Golden Globe award for his performance as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables over the weekend and more success could be coming his way.

It was revealed last week that he was in the running for both an Oscar and a Bafta and he says he is excited to be at the biggest awards ceremony in British film.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "My parents are English and I have a British passport so I'm a British citizen, so in a way I know that world as much if not more than here (Los Angeles).

"That's where I first went to out of Australia," he said at the Bafta tea party in Los Angeles.

"I look up to many of those English stars and the English system. I've been there for many years working, and to be recognised there, it really does mean a lot to me. I am very excited to be there and I will be there with bells on."

Les Miserables had a triumphant night at the Golden globes winning Best Film - Musical/Comedy and Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway.

The movie has taken the global box office by storm and won over critics and audiences.

As for Jackman he will be back on the big screen later this year with ensemble comedy Movie 43 and The Wolverine.
