Luke Evans has described working on The Hobbit as 'immensely exciting'.

The actor is set to play Bard the Bowman the two upcoming Hobbit movies and he feels that all the work that he has done has been leading to this role.

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "It’s been immensely exciting. It feels like all the work I’ve done so far has been building up to this job and to work with The Master himself on a project which has been his baby since... a long time ago.

"I feel very lucky to be here, you know. I’m watching this being made, and then watching Pete do his thing."

Evans has seen his star rocket in the last couple of years with roles in the likes of Tamara Drewe, Immortals and The Three Musketeers.

He has also completed work on No One Lives and Ashes, the latter sees him team up with Jim Sturgess and Ray Winstone.

The Hobbit sees peter Jackson return to the director's chair while Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis are just some of the names on the huge cast list.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
