Marc Webb has said that The Amazing Spider Man is not a remake of the movies that have gone before it and it a completely different addition to the franchise.

The perfectly named Webb has taken over the helm as Spider Man is set to return to the big screen next summer - with Andrew Garfield taking on the role of Pater Parker.

But Webb insisted that the movie is in a ‘different space’ that the Sam Raimi movies.

Speaking to Empire the filmmaker said: “It’s not a remake, we’re not making Sam’s movie again. It’s a different universe and a different story with different characters.

“There are certain mythological obligations people have in any story, but it’s so radically different in terms of tone and what Peter Parker experiences that I’m very comfortable with the movie occupying a different space.”

The movie goes back to the teenage years of Parker as he struggles with both human problems and his super powers.

The movie also sees Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field on the cast list in what promises to be one of the biggest movies of next summer.

The Amazing Spider Man is released 4th July
