Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has compared his role as The Hulk to Hamlet.

The actor takes over the part of Bruce Banner from friend Ed Norton for The Avengers movie, which will see Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Captain America (Chris Evans) all come together.

But the actor admitted that he wasn't happy with the way that he landed the role being such good friends with Norton.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly he said: "I'm a friend of Ed's, and yeah, that wasn't a great way for all that to go down.

"But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation's Hamlet."

His involvement in the movie was announced at Comic Con last week when the cast were introduced to the San Diego crowd, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L.Jackson and Jeremy Renner with also be in the movie.

And the actor is already thinking about how he is going to play the role and has revealed that he is inspired by Bill Bixby's version of the character in the hit TV show of the seventies: "I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at the Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities."
