Rooney Mara has revealed that she found it hard to leave Lisbeth Salander behind after filming had finished on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The actress has teamed up with Daniel Craig and filmmaker David Fincher for a new adaptation of the popular novel by Stieg Larsson.

And she admits that it was difficult to just walk away after such an intense experience with the character.

Speaking to The Press Association at the premiere in London the actress said: "It was harder to get out than in.

"I think it's really hard to come off any experience that you spend that much time and energy on."

Despite that the actress hinted that she would love to be able to reprise the role if the second book, The Girl Who Played With Fire, was adapted for the big screen.

"I hope we get to make them. I would be very grateful if that would happen."

Away from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo the actress is currently filming Lawless - which is directed by Terrence Malick and also stars Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released 26th December
