The Dark Knight held off a spirited challenge from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor to hold on to the number one spot at the American box office.With an extra $43 million the film has almost taken $400 million in the U.S. alone, making it the most financially successful movie of the year.The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the third film in The Mummy franchise, was only just piped to the post grossing just over $42 million and had to be content with the number two spot.Brendan Fraser returns as action hero Rick O'Connell to battle Jet Li's Emperor Han. While John Hannah also reprised his role actress Rachel Weisz did not, replaced by Maria Bello.This was just the first of two Brendan Fraser movies that made the top five as Journey to the Centre of the Earth held on to the fifth spot.The biggest faller this week was The X-Files: I Want to Believe as it fell five places from four to nine.The only other new entry in the top ten this week was Kevin Costner's Swing Vote. 1.
