Toy Story 3 has comfortably held onto the top spot at the UK box office.

The Pixar movie took a further £8.1 million this weekend, the film has now taken $39.7 million in the fortnight that it has been on release in the UK.

The Karate Kid, despite topping the U.S. box office earlier this summer, couldn't topple Toy Story 3 from the top of the chart and had to settle for second.

Starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan the movie is a remake of the eighties classic of the same name and it took £4.8 million to open in second.

Work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master.

The Karate Kid beat off competition from the other big release of the week The A-Team, as the popular characters of the TV show made it to the big screen.

Despite mixed reviews the film opened at third while Inception fell two places to number four while there was a single place drop for Shrek Forever After to round off the top five.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was one of the biggest fallers this week as it dropped three from three to six while Catherine Zeta Jones' new movie The Rebound dropped to two to finish at seven.

Gainsbourg, a biopic picture about the singer was third new entry ay eight while Predators was the other big faller of the week as it dropped three places from six to nine.

A final new entry rounded off the top ten in the form of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.
