Daniel Craig has described the moment that he hurt his knee filming Spectre as 'terrifying.'

Craig picked up the injury while he was filming a stunt in the film and had to undergo a small operation to fix the problem and production was forced into a short break.

It wasn't long before Craig was back on set but he admits that he did slow down a bit when he got back to work.

Speaking to The Sun, the actor talked about the incident saying: "Sadly, the scene isn't in the film. I wish it was but I had to stop halfway through because I did my knee in and I was like 'Woah!' I had to have a little surgery. It was a terrifying moment when I thought they were going to have to shut down while I had it. We were right into it by that point. So I had to protect myself a bit more.

"It slowed me down a bit, but it didn't stop me doing what I wanted to do. But, you know, it's movie-making. You fake it as best you can and they've done an amazing job - most of it is real, there is a little CGI."

However, Craig's injury wasn't all bad news as the break in production allowed Sam Mendes to start the editing process and look back at what had been shot so far - a luxury that you don't usually get on a film set.

Craig continued: "The enforced break allowed Sam to get in the editing room and look at the movie, which he wouldn't normally do. So I like to think of it as a deliberate trick on my behalf to give everyone a break."

Spectre will be the fourth time that we see Craig take on the role of 007 as the movie comes after the success of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall. The movie also sees him reunite with Mendes for what will be their third film together and their second Bond picture.

If Craig will return for a fifth film is still the one unanswered question - I guess we are going to have to wait and see. Should he not, names like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Damien Lewis are being tipped as potential successors.

Spectre is one of the most anticipated films of the year and set to be one of the most successful at the box office. It remains to be see if the film can follow in Skyfall's footsteps and hit the billion dollar mark.

Spectre is released 26th October.
