Iain De Caestecker has called working on Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River a 'fantastic experience.'

De Caestecker is part of a fantastic line-up as Gosling makes the leap into the director's chair for the first time.

And the actor had nothing but praise for Gosling, saying that he was a 'down to earth person'.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "That was great; one of the best experiences I've ever had.

"He's just a very down-to-earth person who really loves film, and that's an infectious thing to be around.

"It was a really free set; Ryan made sure we felt like we were a big part of the process of making the movie.

"He's someone who I've really looked up to, so to work with him every day and try out things with him, I definitely learned a lot. A fantastic experience."

Lost River was originally called How To Kill A Monster, and sees Gosling pen the screenplay as well as being in the director's chair.

Now titled Lost River, De Caestecker is joined on the cast list by Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan and Christina Hendricks.

Lost River will be the first big screen outing for De Caestecker since Filth last year.

No UK release date for Lost River has yet been revealed.
