Dawn of Justice is the sequel to Man of Steel and will see Ben Affleck take over the role of Bruce Wayne for the first time. But you cannot have Bruce without Alfred and Irons is set to be another great new addition to the cast list.

And the actor says that he has been able to create his own Alfred and not carry any 'baggage' from the previous incarnations of this character.

Speaking to the Toronto Sun, the actor said: "[Zack] Snyder... wanted to create a completely different Alfred. So I felt I didn't have to carry any baggage from previous ones.

"It's sort of a reincarnation if you'd like. I had a feeling I was creating my own Alfred, more of a man who can actually do anything if he has to."

We haven't seen the character of Alfred on the big screen since The Dark Knight Rises and Irons will be taking over the role from Michael Caine.

Irons and Affleck are not the only new faces on board Dawn of Justice, as Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Jesse Eisenberg are also the other big additions as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Lex Luthor.

Henry Cavill is back as Clark Kent, while Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, and Lawrence Fishburne are also reprising their roles from Man of Steel Zack Snyder is in the director's chair and this is his first film since the success of Man of Steel in 2013.

Irons has been on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his new film High-Rise, which sees him star alongside Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans.

The actor has also completed work on La corrispondenza, which is directed and written by Giuseppe Tornatore, and Race, which is new from Stephen Hopkins. The movie is a biopic about Jesse Owens - played by Stephen James - and will see Irons take on the role of Avery Brundage.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th march 2016.
