Jessica Chastain has called for more major Hollywood roles to be created for older actresses.

Chastain is not an actress who is not afraid to voice her opinion on issues in the film industry, having called for a female led superhero movie earlier this year.

And now she is voicing her concern for the lack of major roles for older actresses and wants to see more of them get the type of roles that are often offered to Meryl Streep.

Speaking to Glamour, the actress said:

"I'm really, really supportive of women in Hollywood. I love Meryl Streep. She's such an incredible actress.

"But I feel like she's the only one in her age group who gets those parts. I'd like to see Jessica Lange in a movie again, you know? Or Susan Sarandon. Why isn't Viola Davis a lead in a film? She's one of the greatest actresses alive.

"And where are the Asian actors and actresses? I'm not saying we don't want movies about men. I'm just saying, come on, all the men I know love women!

"So let's also have some stories about these women. Let's write something for them, guys - and let's make room for women writers, too."

Chastain has shot to fame in recent years, her breakthrough role coming in The Help alongside Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, and Emma Stone. She was nominated for her first Oscar for her supporting performance but lost out to Spencer.

Since that success, she has gone on to star in Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless and Mama, becoming one of the most in demand actresses in Hollywood. She will also be back on the big screen next month as she teams up with Christopher Nolan for the first time with Interstellar.

The actress has also completed work on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, A Most Violent Year, and Crimson Peak.
