Karen Gillan has revealed that she 'fell in love' with her character when she read the script for new film Oculus.

Gillan has a very busy summer ahead of her, and Oculus is the first of her films to hit the big screen.

The movie will see her Kaylie Russell, who is trying to prove that supernatural forces and not her brother committed murder.

Speaking to Collider, the actress said: "Yeah, I fell in love with the character. I think that she’s really, really interesting. She’s so damaged, for good reason, and that’s always interesting to play, as an actress.

"And I thought the script was so well-written. The time devoted to character development was really rare.

"And then, I watched the short film of Oculus that the director, Mike Flanagan made, and I was so impressed with that. I was like, 'I have to do this!'"

Oculus sees Gillan team up with director Mike Flanagan for the first time, as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since Absentia.

Brenton Thwaites will play Gillan's brother in the film, while Katee Sackhoff, Rory Cochrane and James Lafferty are also on board.

Gillan will also be back in August as she plays villain Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy: the biggest film of her career to date.

Oculus is released 13th June.
