Harington has shot to fame as Jon Snow in the hit TV adaptation of epic novels and has gone on to become one of the show's most popular characters. However, the actor is looking ahead to when he finally finishes work on the series.

Filming Game of Thrones takes up much of each year and only allows the actor to tackle a limited number of film roles - and he is looking forward to throwing himself into as many different roles as he can when he not longer has to film for the show.

Speaking to Empire magazine, the actor said: : "Thrones has been my life these past few years. Hopefully after it finishes I'll have the freedom to do as much as I'd like.

"My [initial] remit for myself was just to do everything, but now I don't want to do anything that isn't testing me."

Harington can currently be seen as Snow in the fifth series of Game of Thrones - which is airing at the moment - and he will be back on the big screen this week with Spooks: The Great Good, which is based on the hit BBC One show.

Harington is set to take on the role of decommissioned MI5 agent Will Holloway who is called by into action by series favourite Harry Pearce - Peter Firth will reprise the role of Pearce once again. Bharat Nalluri - who directed some of the original episodes - is in the director's chair, while Elyes Gabel, Jennifer Ehle, Tuppence Middleton, Lara Pulver, and Tim McInnerny make up the cast list.

Spooks: The Greater Good is set to be one of the biggest movies and film roles of Harington's movie career to date - it is also the third film that we have seen in him start in this year.

Harington has already enjoyed success with Testament of Youth, which was based on the World War I memoir by Vera Brittain, at the beginning of the year, before appearing in the adaptation of novel Seventh Son in March.

Spooks: The Greater Good looks set to be the only big screen outing for Harington this year.

Spooks: The Greater Good is released 8th May.
