Michael Wilkinson has described working on Wonder Woman's costume as a 'slightly scary prospect'.

Wilkinson is working as costume designer on Batman vs Superman, where we are going to be introduced to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman for the first time.

And while Wonder Woman is already an iconic character, Wilkinson says it is important to protray her in a way that is relevant for today's audience.

Speaking to The Wrap, he said: "It’s thrilling and slightly scary prospect. It’s so important to get her right. She really deserves to be presented on-screen in her full glory.

"So what I do is I look at the history of how the character has been presented on the big-screen, and the small-screen, and in comic books, and graphic novels. We process it all.

"Then we kind of put that aside and work out what is right for our film, for the cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is putting together. We try and create a Wonder Woman that’s relevant for today’s audiences."

Gadot was announced as Wonder Woman last year, and saw off competition from the likes of Olga Kurylenko and Jaimie Alexander.

Gadot won't be the only new face on the cast list, as Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg are on board as Batman and Lex Luthor.

Wilkinson was nominated for an Oscar for his costume work on American Hustle, and has also worked on the upcoming Noah.

Superman vs Batman will be released 6th May 2015.
