Michelle Pfeiffer says that she has a level of comfort with co-star Robert De Niro that is rare.

Pfeiffer and De Niro star together in new film The Family: while this is the third movie that they appear in together it is the first time that they have shared screen time.

Stardust and New Year’s Eve were the previous films and yet they never did a scene together in those movies.

The Family is based on the novel Tonino Benacquista and sees Pfeiffer and De Niro play husband and wife.

Speaking to French TV channel TF1 the actress said:

She told French television channel TF1: "It's funny because for the two films that we have in common [before this]; the only moments when we could be together was during the premieres on the red carpet. Without really knowing Robert, I felt there was something between us.

"It went deeper than formalities like 'I'm pleased to meet you, I love your work'. I think we felt at ease together, we have the same approach to our jobs, the same ethics.

“Even on a personal level we have things in common: we've both been married for a long time, family is important to us. To have this level of comfort with a co-star is really rare."

The movie is directed by Luc Besson and follows a Mafia family that is in witness protection: Dianna Agron, Tommy Lee Jones and John D’Leo are also on the cast list.

The Family is released 22nd November.
