Netflix are delving into the future of Berlin in their upcoming original film Mute, and the streaming service have this week released a brand new official trailer for the movie, as well as a stunning new poster. You can check them both out below:

Alexander Skarsgård leads the flick as Leo, a man who’s unable to speak due to an injury sustained during a childhood accident. As he searches for his missing girlfriend throughout the city, he must traverse dark streets and frenzied plazas, coming face-to-face with the full spectrum of personalities that exist within Berlin.

The love of his life is on the line, so he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it back to her, but as he seeks answers he comes across a pair of strange figures known as Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux). The two are US army surgeons and have their own mission, but will any of the unlikely trio be successful in their journey?

Set within the genre of sci-fi, the movie comes from director Duncan Jones, who imagines a world like none we’ve seen, but in which love and humanity are still traits worth having.

Jones wrote the screenplay for Mute alongside Michael Robert Johnson, with Stuart Fenegan serving as producer, and Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie working as executive producers.

Originally scheduled to drop last year, it will be interesting to see if the reworked schedule allows Mute to become something truly special on Netflix. The success seen by Bright – although not critically – made sure that the company picked up a sequel, with David Ayer set to return as filmmaker and both Will Smith and Joel Edgerton looking likely to lead the film all over again.

If Mute sees even close to the success Bright saw with Netflix’s viewer-base, there’s every chance it could spark up a whole new series.

Mute comes to Netflix on February 23, 2018.
