Peter Farrelly says 'Dumb And Dumber To' is "a little masterpiece".

The comedy sequel - which is set to be filmed this summer - will see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their roles as hapless best friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in a sequel to their 1994 production.

Farrelly told the Nerdist podcast: "It's so good, I think it makes the first one better. We took two years to work on this script."

'Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd' - was released in 2003 - did not feature the original stars or any involvement from the Farrelly Brothers who are determined to make the sequel a hit.

Farrelly added: "We didn't want to do it unless it was as good as the first one. We just didn't want to tarnish the first one, and you know, we didn't do 'Dumb And Dumberer'."

The duo are excited about their new project which was announced by Warner Bros. last week.

They previously shared the news on twitter, writing: "It's official: Dumber and Dumber To is going to production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!! (sic)"

The sequel is expected to centre on a road trip, much like the original - which was a huge hit with audiences worldwide and is set to be released in the summer for a 2014 - the 20th anniversary of the original film.
