Pitch Perfect 2 Holds Off Mad Max: Fury Road At UK Box Office

Pitch Perfect 2 has held off the challenge from Mad Max: Fury Road and Tomorrowland: A World Beyond to remain at the top of the UK box office.

Pitch Perfect 2 has made it two weeks as the #1 movie in the UK as it took a further £2.6 million over the weekend.

Despite being toppled at the U.S. box office this week, Pitch Perfect 2 is already more successful than the first film - passing the $115 million gross of Pitch Perfect in just five days.

There was also no change at two as Mad Max: Fury Road narrowly missed out on claiming the top spot. There was little to separate the top movie by the end of the weekend, but Mad Max had to settle for second place.

Mad Max: Fury Road has been met with critical acclaim since its released a fortnight ago and it has already grossed in excess of $219 million at the global box office.

Tomorrowland - A World Beyond, which is the latest live action offering from Disney starring George Clooney, was the highest new entry this week, as it opened at number three. The movie, which is directed by Brad Bird, has already topped the U.S. box office but was unable to repeat that feat in the UK this weekend.

Poltergeist was also new in at four in what was another tight battle with the Disney movie - the horror remake narrowly missed out on being the third biggest movie this weekend.

Avengers: Age of Ultron slipped two places this week from three to five, while Spooks: The Greater Good fell out of the top five as it also dropped two places from four to six.

Far from the Madding Crowd was the only movie on the up as it jumped a single place from eight to seven - following the same pattern as in the U.S., where it was also on the up this weekend. Home continues to perform well and slipped just a single place from seven to eight this week.

The top ten was rounded off by new entries this week as Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Two by Two opened at nine and ten.
