Dad's Army is coming to the big screen at the beginning of 2016 and will see Jones take over the role of Mainwaring from Arthur Lowe.

And while the actor reveals that he did have lots of fun making the movie, it was one of those projects that he initially thought was a 'terrible idea.' However, Jones was won over by the script that honoured the original and much-loved series.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: "It was fun," he explained. "It was really nerve-wracking. It was one of those jobs where you go, 'No, that's a terrible idea, I don't want anything to do with that, thank you very much'."

"They sent [Hamish McColl's] script - it was really good. I thought it balanced honouring the old by putting them in a new situation.

"And when I saw who else was cast in it, I thought, 'That's exactly the right kind of way to go'. It's not comics, it's more actors."

Bill Nighy, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Bill Paterson, Daniel Mays, and Blake Harrison are also on board as Wilson, Jones, Godfrey, Frazer, Walker and Pike. Catherine Zeta Jones, Sarah Lancashire, and Ian Lavender complete the cast list.

Lavender took on the role of Private Pike in the original television series, but will play Brigadier Pritchard this time around.

The movie will see Oliver Parker in the director's chair for what will be his first film since Johnny English Reborn back in 2011.

As for Jones, we are going to be seeing plenty of him on both the big and small screen this year with a wide range of projects on the horizon.

He has already completed work on Alice Through The Looking Glass, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Be Our Selves, The Man Who Knew Infinity, and TV mini-series Wayward Pines.

Dad's Army is released 5th February 2016.
