Safe Haven

Safe Haven

Is there anything better than watching a movie to discover that most romantic moment when two people are caught in the rain, often involving a kiss? A kiss, that is slow and passionate that wouldn’t be nearly as great without said rain?

Upcoming film Safe Haven gives viewers just that. As the latest Nicholas Sparks novel to hit the silver screen, Safe Haven follows the story of Katie (Julianne Hough), a young woman trying to escape her past, as she travels to North Carolina and develops a relationship with single dad and widower Alex (Josh Duhamel).

If there’s anything we’ve learned from Nicholas Sparks, it’s that no movie is complete without a classic kissing scene, especially those in the rain. In celebration of the March release of Safe Haven, we give you our favourite movie rain scenes.

- Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) – Holly and Paul

‘’Cat. Cat. Cat. Catttttttttt.’’ Leading lady Audrey Hepburn finds her cat and her man. No words are needed as a mutual longing stare into each others’ eyes says more than words could. The melody of Moon River provides the perfect ending as the film comes full circle.

- Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) – Charles and Carrie

The unconventional completely backwards yet somehow still perfect ‘’I DO’’ moment. From our favourite British sweetheart, the one and only Hugh Grant: ‘’For the first time in my whole life I realized that I totally and utterly loved one person.

It’s the person standing opposite me now. In the rain. The truth of it is I’ve loved you from the first second I met you.’’ Insert awesome kiss here.

- Spider-man (2002) – Spider-Man and Mary Jane

‘’Don’t I get to say thank you this time?’’ The world’s first, only, and best upside down kiss in cinematic history. Need I say more?

- Sweet Home Alabama (2002) – Jake and Mel

Mel (Reese Witherspoon): ‘’You’re the first boy I ever kissed Jake. And I want you to be the last.’’ Jake (Josh Lucas): ‘’What you wanna be married to me anyhow?’ Mel: ‘’ So I can kiss you anytime I want.’’

There just ain’t nothin’ sweeter than some good ole’ country lovin’. Lynyrd Skynyrd + country accents = southern romance at its finest.

- The Notebook (2004) – Noah and Allie

‘’I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you every day for a year. It wasn’t over. It still isn’t over.’’ Ryan Gosling provides the most intense head grab we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing thus far.

The kiss was so great that the then real life couple re-enacted it at the 2005 MTV movie awards upon being named ‘Best Kiss.’

We are quite confident this kiss will remain one of the best for movies to come. Thank you Nicholas Sparks, we are eternally grateful.

- Dear John (2010) – John and Savannah

‘’You don’t scare me John. (Channing Tatum)’’ ‘’No? Well you scare me.’’- Channing Tatum. Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) smiles innocently as she looks down at the floor preceding 6 miserable seconds of anticipation.

Channing Tatum then manages to pick her up and sit back down despite the torrential down pour, all while giving her a kiss. Now that’s talent. Did we mention it’s Channing Tatum?

- Safe Haven (2013) – Katie and Alex

‘’Would you like to go canoeing with me?’’ Insert canoe ride. Romantic frolicking in the rain. KISS. Alex (aka Josh Duhamel as a sexy widower and single dad) proclaims to Katie (aka Julianne Hough as a young women trying to escape her mysterious past): ‘’I love you and I can’t let you go. There’s no safer place for you than here with me.’’

Feel like you need some more details? We did that on purpose to create an element of surprise. And that’s just what this movie has. Want to know what happens next? You will just have to wait and see Safe Haven when it hits cinemas 1 March.
