Star Trek Beyond

Director: Justin Lin

Rating: 3.5/5

If you are looking for some blockbuster action on the big screen this week, look no further than Star Trek Beyond.

Star Trek Beyond is the third film in the new sci-fi franchise and sees Justin Lin take over the director's chair from J.J. Abrams for the first time.

In Star Trek Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

I have been a fan of the new Star Trek franchise so far and Star Trek Beyond is another great addition to this film series.

If you are looking for a movie that's action packed, has plenty of adventure and looks fantastic, Star Trek Beyond is the movie for you and cannot be missed. It really does deliver everything that you expect from a big budget blockbuster.

I have to say, the movie looks fantastic, Justin Lin and his team have created a terrific looking movie. Audiences are taken deep into space to explore new worlds... and it really does look incredibly impressive.

As well as being on the cast list, Simon Pegg has had a hand in penning the screenplay, which is fast paced and packed with some terrific dialogue. Pegg and Doug Jung have struck the perfect balance between action, comedy, and some great character development.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are back as Kirk and Spock; Kirk is trying to figure out why he joined Starfleet while Spock is divided on where his loyalties should lie.

I am a huge fan of Pine and Quinto in these roles and they continue to make them their own in Star Trek Beyond - but without every forgetting what has gone before.

Star Trek Beyond is a summer movie that you can kick back and enjoy and get swept along in the story and by the characters. This latest instalment is a great old-fashioned Star Trek adventure with a modern twist.

The new franchise continues to honour the past but without every trying to match it or surpass it. It continues to carve an identity for itself and new and old fans should find these new film an exciting ride.

Star Trek Beyond is out now.
