Star Trek is set to blast back onto the big screen this summer for the third film in the new series. I have been a fan of the franchise so far and I am looking forward to seeing where they take the story and the characters next.

It is all change in the director's chair as Justin Lin takes over from J.J. Abrams for the first time - Abrams stepped away from the franchise to focus on a small film called Star Wars. However, he is still serving as producer.

Lin is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster with the Fast & Furious series under his belt; this is his first feature since the success of Fast & Furious 6 back in 2013.

While Abrams did steer the first two Star Trek movies to success, it will great to see a new vision and direction brought to the franchise - I am looking forward to seeing Lin put his stamp on it.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are set to reunite as they reprise their roles as Kirk and Spock, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho are also back as Uhura, Scotty, Bones, Chekov, and Sulu.

Idris Elba has a very busy 2016 ahead of him and he is the big new additions to the cast list as Krall. Elba is one of the best actors around and I can't wait to see him in action.

In Star Trek Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

It was back in 2009 when Abrams brought star Trek back to the big screen with a reboot of the popular series. So far, the first two movies have grossed over $800 million at the global box office and the release of Star Trek Beyond will make it a billion dollar franchise.

The first trailer promised much and it looks like we are in for another exciting ride - it could be the biggest instalment to date.

Star Trek Beyond is released 22nd July.
