It has been eight years since Tommy Lee Jones made his big screen feature film debut with The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and now he is back with The Homesman.

The Homesman

The Homesman

It may have been a long wait to see Jones back in the director's chair, but it look like the wait was worth is as The Homesman seems to be winning over the critics.

As well as being in the director's chair, Jones will also star as George Briggs alongside fellow Oscar winner Hilary Swank - it is a partnership that I cannot wait to see on the big screen.

We have not been treated to too many Westerns in recent years, but The Homesman looks set to be a great edition to this genre. Ahead of the film's release next week, we have an exclusive clip to share with you:

It is always great to see Swank in a leading role, and this is performance that is being tipped as a possible outsider for a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

Jones has brought together a wonderful cast for the film, as he and Swank are joined by Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, William Fichtner, and the fabulous Meryl Streep.

When three women living on the edge of the American frontier are driven mad by harsh pioneer life, the task of saving them falls to the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy (Swank).

Transporting the women by covered wagon to Iowa, she soon realizes just how daunting the journey will be, and employs a low-life drifter, George Briggs (Jones), to join her.

The unlikely pair and the three women (Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter) head east, where a waiting minister and his wife (Streep) have offered to take the women in. But the group first must traverse the harsh Nebraska Territories marked by stark beauty, psychological peril, and constant threat.

October has been a terrific month for film drama, and The Homesman is set to continue that trend and is a movie that is not to be missed.

The Homesman is released 21st November.
