Chris Evans

Chris Evans

Chris Evans is back on the big screen this week as he reprises the role of Steve Rodgers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the second stand-alone film for this character, and the third time that Evans has taken on this role.

The movie is already winning over the critics, and looks set to be a box office smash: I personally think it is the best Marvel film yet.

The Winter Soldier follows Steve Rodgers as he tries to find his place in the modern world - of course, he is soon called up on to save the world.

Evans reunites with Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson & Sebastian Stan, while Anthony Mackie & Robert Redford are some of the new faces on the cast list.

The latest Marvel film kicks off a busy year for the actor, as we are going to see him in front of and behind the camera.

Another of his movies that promises to be an exciting one is Snowpiercer. This is a movie that I have been looking forward to for about twelve months, but there is still no official UK release date.

Snowpiercer marks the English-speaking debut for director Joon-ho Bong, and is based on the graphic novel Le Transperceneige.

Evans is joined by an all-star cast as Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris and Octavia Spencer are all also on board.

The movie screened at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and promises to be one of the stand out sci-fi films of 2014. Fingers crossed we will be able to see it sooner rather than later.

Evans has also completed work on A Many Splintered Thing, as he teams up with director Justin Reardon.

Speaking of directors, Evans moved into the chair last year as he made his debut with 1:30 to Nowhere.

The movie follows a young woman in New York City races to catch the 1:30 Train to Boston. On the way, she is robbed.

She is lost in the dark underbelly of New York at night with nothing and no one.

Evans will star in the film as well as direct, alongside Alice Eve and Emma Fitzpatrick.

Evans has already hinted that he is keen to explore directing more and so we may be seeing him on the big screen less and less.

Having said that, we will be seeing him in a whole host of Marvel movies as he completes his multi-movie contract.

Filming has got underway on Avengers: Age of Ultron, a movie that will see him team up with Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner once again.

Age of Ultron is already the most anticipated films of next year, and is set to enjoy similar success to Avengers Assemble.

It has also been announced that a third Captain America film is already in the pipeline. Anthony and Joe Russo will be back in the director's chair, and the film will hit the big screen in 2016.

Evan has plenty of film projects to enjoy this year, but I am excited to see him make his directorial debut.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is out now.
