Jay Z moving on
There have been numerous hints that rapper and CEO of Def Jam, Jay Z will be moving from the label to Sony/Columbia when his tenure is up. But Jay Z was quick to deny these rumors "I'm always looking at the next move," he said and stated that he liked his job at the label in a recent interview.Jay Z has faced major criticism while in the role at Def Jam, due to marketing and promotions of certain albums. Sony/Columbia which is headed bu by former Def Jam founder Rick Rubin is currently home to Beyonce, girlfriend of Jay Z.
Beyonce tumble pulled off youtube
Video hosting site youtube.com pulled down a video of Beyonce falling at a recent show in Florida. The site pulled down the clips of the fall implying the user who posted the clips were guilty of copy right infringement. "Even if [they] took the video [themselves], the performer controls the right to use his/her image in a video, the songwriter owns the rights to the song being performed and sometimes the venue prohibits filming without permission," it was explained. Beyonce had remarked jokingly in a press conference when addressing the fall that she hoped the clips didn't appear on youtube.com.
Usher wedding cancelled
Amidst more controversy than you would expect to find in a highly publicized divorce, the wedding of Usher Raymond and stylist Tameka Foster was cancelled this weekend. The publicist for the platinum selling Confessions artist said in a statement "It was announced today that the wedding ceremony for Usher Raymond, IV and Tameka Foster was canceled. No additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation, but we hope the privacy of this matter will be respected."It has been speculated that the wedding was cancelled due to a recent story in the National Enquirer about Foster, a mother of three. Usher had no idea his fiance had a criminal record according to industry insiders. The couple who have been dating for close to a year are expecting their first child later this year.

Cool and Dre ink deal with Imperial
Featured producers on FemaleFirst.co.uk, the Miami based Cool and Dre have inked a deal with Imperial Records for their imprint Epidemic. Imperial, a subsidiary of EMI will a host of distribution and label services which include promotions, marketing, online marketing and publicity for Epidemic.

The lead off artist on the label is Miami rapper Joe Hound and his debut album Misery loves Company will be the first to benefit from the situation which has been cited by both producers as 'the beginning of a long lasting relationship.'

Jay Z denies involvement
A recent dispute between a waitress and the 40/40 sports bar lounge in Manhattan has seen rapper and CEO Shawn Carter AKA Jay Z named in as a defendant in the legal suit. However lawyers for Jay Z have asked for the rapper and his partner Juan Perez's names to be removed from the claim made by the former waitress.

According to legal representation the plaintiff named Jay Z "solely because Shawn Carter is a public figure and plaintiffs hoped to draw publicity to extract a quick settlement." In actuality Carter and Perez are just partners in the high profile night spot and have no actual dealings with the daily running of the operation.

The waitress made allegations stating that staff were being paid below the minimum wage.

More troubles for DMX
Troubled rapper DMX, born Earl Simmons has been ordered to pay out close to $250,000 to a company who had looked to the rapper to promote their clothing company. Failing to fulfill his contractual agreement with Amusing Diversions Inc resulted in the company losing both money and customers. DMX in actuality promoted other clothing lines on stage as opposed to the Boomer 129 line he had worked on with the company.

DMX who reverted back to Sony last year in a highly publicized return is currently working on his seventh album. The title is speculated to be The Resurrection of Hip-Hop and is expected to feature artists such as 50 Cent, Eve and Mary J Blige. Production on the album will fall into the safe hands of co-hort Swizz Beats, JR Rotem and The Alchemist.

Eminem takes a bite out of Apple
Multi platinum rapper Eminem has taken on media giant Apple for using unauthorized tracks from the Detroit lyricist, allowing consumers to download them. The multi million dollar lawsuit was filed in Detroit by Eminem, born Marshall Mathers and his Eight Mile Style, publishing company.

This is not the first time the rapper has come head to head with Apple. They used an unauthorized song back in 2004 for a marketing campaign which was eventually settled out of court for a disclosed amount.

Lil Jon fuses Crunk and Rock
The pioneer of Crunk, rapper/producer Lil Jon is working on a new album which sees the branch of Hip-Hop he is responsible for merge with good old rock and roll. Combining the creative forces of artists such as Kid rock, Remy Ma, Three 6 Mafia and P.O.D the album which will be released on TVT is speculated to hit shelves towards the end of the year.

"One thing I like is people are opening [our] ears to the music, 'cause [we] tend to be closed-minded to sh*t we don't know about," the rapper explained to Billboard.com. The rapper had been in disputes with the largest independent music label TVT but once the differences were settled back in 2006, Crunk Rock was the project which the Atlanta based rapper began to work on.
