After a fantastic 2010 Preeya Kalidas last night took home the Uk Asian Music Award (AMA) at The Roundhouse, Camden for Best Female Act.

The accolade follows hot on the heels of the BAFTA success of Four Lions earlier this year.  Facing stiff competition in her category from the likes of M.I.A, Preeya has proven that the transition from acting into music really is paying off.  Before picking up her award Preeya gave a show stopping performance and was joined on stage by UK MC Skepta whom she collaborated with on Top 40 hit Cross My Heart.

“Music has always been a passion of mine, so to be recognised as an artist in this category is a real honour.” - says an elated Kalidas.

Preeya is currently in the studio working on new material and has on board top UK producers and artists including Wretch 32 (MoS), True Tiger (EMI/Professor Green), Naughty Boy (Sony ATV), Wizzy Wow (Chipmunk) and Angel (Island Records).

Other winners on the night included Jay Sean for Best Male Act and Rumer for Best Alternative Act.  The night was hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Nihal, with Alesha Dixon and Tim Westwood amongst those in attendance.
