The 43-year-old star - who portrayed market stall worker Amira Masood in the BBC One soap from 2009 to 2012 - accidentally trapped her finger in a door while working out at the gym.

Following the incident, she had to go to A and E, and have a bandage applied to the area.

Preeya posted a picture of her injured finger on her Instagram Stories and wrote: "Getting on with my day. Then end up in A and E.

"Don't trap your finger in doors.

"Painful and bloody."

But she saw the funny side of the bandage she had applied.

Preeya shared a video of her digit, and wrote: "The nurse said, 'I need to put this on like a condom.' "

But the star later revealed she had not broken her finger and didn't need any stitches.

She posted: "Not broke. Don't need stitches. Life carries on."

Last year, the star admitted she would "absolutely" return to 'EastEnders' if asked.

She told Metro newspaper's Sixty Seconds column: "I had the best time on that show and I loved playing Amira so, absolutely, I would (go back) if there was a storyline as full of drama as the previous ones."

The 'Bend It Like Beckham' actress went on to describe her first time on the Albert Square set as "overwhelming", because she had been watching actors like Steve McFadden - who plays Phil Mitchell - for years.

She also found it "poignant" when millions of people tuned in to watch her character's wedding to Syed Masood (Marc Elliott).

Preeya added: "It was overwhelming. I used to watch it when I was a kid so it was bizarre walking on set and seeing people like Phil Mitchell. He came up and introduced himself. He was lovely - he wasn't Phil, he was Steve McFadden so it was fine.

"I played Amira Masood and more than 11 million people tuned in to watch her wedding to Syed.

"I got to wear the most beautiful Indian outfit. The story was so poignant and it won best wedding at the Inside Soap Awards."
