Violetta Villas performed with Frank Sinatra

Violetta Villas has died at the age of 73.

The Polish singer and Las Vegas cabaret star passed away at her home in the village of Lewin Klodzki in Poland on Monday.

The entertainer rose to fame in the 1960s and became known for her extensive vocals, which spanned four octaves, and her trademark curly blonde hair.

She spent three years at the Casino de Paris in Sin City from 1966, performing with music icons Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Eartha Kitt, and also established herself in movies, with credits including 1969 films Paint Your Wagon and Heaven with a Gun.

Her career suffered a major setback in 1970 when she flew home to Poland to care for her sick mother - only for authorities in the Soviet Union to reject a passport application to return to the U.S. as a result of the Cold War.

Villas finally returned to New York in 1987 for a new tour.
