Yoko Ono

John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono wants her late husband's killer to remain behind bars because she fears he could come after her and the star's children if he is released.

The Beatles legend was shot dead in New York in 1980 and Mark Chapman was later convicted of his murder and sentenced to 20-years-to-life behind bars.

He became eligible for parole in 2000 and is set to face another board hearing on Monday - but Ono has continued to oppose his release and recently wrote to court officials to campaign against him walking free.

Ono admits she is chilled by the thought of Chapman being released - because she believes he also poses a potential threat to the general public, not just Lennon's family.

She says, "He can be a danger - especially to us; to me, Julian and Sean (his sons). But I think that maybe he would be a danger to other people, too."

Lennon and Ono had one son, Sean, in 1975. Julian Lennon is the singer's child from his first marriage to Cynthia Powell.
