Il Divo

Il Divo's Sebastien Izambard was once in a toilet when a fan proclaimed their love for him.

The 40-year-old star - who makes up the operatic pop quartet alongside David Miller, Carlos Marin and Urs Buhler - was shocked by the reception the group received in South America and just exactly how far some fans went to get a glimpse of the stars.

The French-born star said: "We were in South America going to the hotel and it felt like The Beatles coming in to town. We had a lot of fans waiting outside the hotel. A lady just climbed the wall and knocked on my window and says, 'Sebastien I love you!' and all I heard after was bang, so she have must have fallen."

Bandmate Carlos Martin added: "He was in the toilet!"

Although they were flattered by the response to their visit, the group admitted they felt "restricted" by the level of attention they received.

Tenor singer Urs said: "The whole of Latin America for example, that's got a very specific dynamic, these fans they are very outgoing, they are very on to you. It's great to get so much adoration but that's when you realise, 'Wow we are famous,' but it does restrict you to a certain point."

The singers release their new album, 'A Musical Affair', on December 2 and admit they are nervous about the reception the record of Broadway hits - which features collaborations with Nicole Scherzinger, Barbra Streisand and Michael Ball - will get.

Urs said: "How are the people who are not necessarily just Il Divo fans but are big, big Broadway fans - how are they going to react? How are they going to take it? Do they think we messed with their beautiful music?

David added: "In the early meetings I was all, 'No, no, we can't do that!' But now I'm softening up. Having the honour and the privilege to go take our musical theatre album and actually play it on Broadway with all the other musical theatre pieces. It's a very interesting thing to take that music outside the box and give it a new life in that way.

Il Divo will be taking 'A Musical Affair' on the road with a worldwide tour in 2014, which will visit the UK in October.
