The award-winning multi-platinum superstar Robin Thicke returns to centre stage this autumn with a record that is a joyful and modern tribute to the â70s soul and pop records that have inspired his career to date.
Robinâs new album âSomething Elseâ is released on October 13th through Star Trak/Interscope Records. Produced entirely by Robin and his long-time collaborator Pro-Jay, âSomething Elseâ is described by Robin as a mixture of âclassic Philly, Motown and â70s black discoâ.
Robin is looking to surpass the success of his previous releases, including the single âLost Without Uâ which was a big radio airplay hit in the UK. It was taken from his twice platinum album âThe Evolution of Robin Thickeâ which was received to a chorus of rave reviews in the UK last year.
Melding the retro and the modern across 12 tracks, âSomething Elseâ contains future hits like âHard on My Loveâ, with its mesmerizing Superfly-era vocals and Gamble and Huff-inspired horn arrangements.
Tracks like âSide Stepâ with its lyrical optimism and an irresistible invitation to the dance floor is inspired and sexy. âSweetest Loveâ, âYouâre My Babyâ and âMiss Harmonyâ are all tracks influenced by the romantic backdrop of Paris and the title track âSomething Elseâ has a groove so insistent, itâll have the dance floor packed from the moment the opening note is played.
The first single âMagicâ (out October 27th), draws all of Something Elseâs influences together into one blast of disco-infused dance pop. Robert Hales (director of Gnarls Barkleyâs âCrazyâ video) was tapped to add visual balance, paying reference to Fred Astaireâs âMr. Universeâ and Stanley Kubrickâs 2001: A Space Odyssey.
On top of this both the physical and digital albums will have a âdigital insertâ section, which will allow people to access Robinâs âSomething Else Luxury Suiteâ, which gives the user unlimited access to bonus songs, behind the scenes videos, pictures and wallpapers, plus all the latest info on Robin.
Robin is currently touring the US with the Queen of Hip Hop soul Mary J Blige. Heâs also just written the theme song for Lee Daniels (âMonsterâs Ballâ) new film âPushâ, about the â80s Harlem and crack epidemic. Heâs also working on his debut screenplay plus writing a book of poetry.
