Rating: 4/5

It has been two years since Brasstronaut burst onto the music scene with their debut album Mt Chimera and now they are back with their new offering Mean Sun.

This album perhaps has a more poppy feel that its predecessor and yet there are still elements of jazz and electronica present.

Bounce is the opening track on the record and this is a track that builds and builds and it completely captivating from start to finish.

Francisco sees the band go back to the sound that they are more known for and the jam feel to the end of the track really does work so well.

Title track Mean Sun is a very haunting track that sees Edo Van Breemen's vocals sound quite withdrawn - however it is a fantastic sounding track.

There is a darkness in this track and yet there is also a delicate and timid feel to it as well; a contrast that works really well.

The opening three tracks on this album couldn't be more different as Brasstronaut show that they are a band that is not afraid to experiment with its sound.

The Grove changes the sound and feel again as this is quite a tense record that is incredibly unsettling.

Mean Sun is a very atmospheric record as Brasstronaut create a whole host of different emotions and feelings from track to track.

It is great to see the band back and in such fine form and this record should be as well received as the first.
