Hiatus aka Cyrus Shahrad is back with his new EP Change Up which sees him work with Smoke Feathers’ singer Matt Falloon for the first time.
Change Up is the title and opening track on this three song EP and it is the standout song in this collection.
Hiatus has been known for his electronica work in the past but Change Up is something completely different as this is a complex composition that is simply beautiful.
There are some electronic elements in the backing track but they have been stripped back and accompanied by acoustic guitar and piano.
Change Up is a haunting track and there is almost a floating feel to it as it fades in and out in a very laid back manor.
Falloon’s vocals on the track are also fantastic as they have a very mellow sound to them and they just wash over you and pull you into the track.
There is a very mesmerising feel to everything about this stunning track and it is something completely different to what you would expect from this artist.
Book of Prayer has a more energetic beat to it when compared to Change Up but once again Hiatus has used delicate strings and piano to create this haunting sound.
However the track is a little repetitive and doesn’t have the same impact as the opening track.
Hiatus’ electronic work really does take centre stage at the opening of Flickering and this is perhaps the closest to the work that he has done in the past.
Change Up EP is a collection of both haunting and yet uplifting electronic tracks that beautifully mixes the beat of the backing music with Falloon’s soothing vocals.
