After the success of their fantastic single I Won’t Let You Go last month The Robbie Boyd Band are back with their new EP Autumn’s Flown.
There has been a buzz around this band for the last twelve months as they caused quite a stir on the live circuit and this EP will only introduce them to a whole new audience.
Angel is the perhaps a surprising opening track on this EP, I would have expected to see the band launch the record with I Won’t Let You Go.
Angel is not a track that has an opening that immediately grabs your attention it is a track that slowly builds to a fantastic chorus.
But this track immediately tells you what this band it all about and introduces you to Robbie Boy’s charming and enchanting song writing.
There is a real melodic feel to this track and it slowly builds into what really is a very beautiful song.
The highlight of this EP is, without a shadow of a doubt, I Won’t Let You Go as it is one of the most energetic and upbeat tracks on this record.
Yes there is a real folk sound to this track but there is also a very contemporary feel to it as well with the kooky arrangements and great incredibly catchy harmonies.
And it’s one great track after the other as Orion’s Belt is another gem as the folk elements that run throughout this whole album are mixed so beautifully with jazz.
Perhaps folk ad jazz are two genres that should not fit so well together but the delicate injection of saxophone really gives this beautiful track extra depth.
Orion’s Belt is perhaps the most emotive track on this fantastic EP as Mared Evans’ vocals compliment Robbie Boyd and together they bring to life the great melodies.
Never Never Land is another incredibly charming song that is filled with such delicate strings that are mixed together with guitar and piano.
But the beat really kicks in half way through as the band up the tempo and the song of two halves works really well.
Autumn’s Flown is an EP that is just packed with heart and emotion and I just wish there had been more of it.
Robbie Boyd is such a creative songwriter as he is able to pack so much feeling into the songs that he writes - his distinctive voice then really bringing those words to life.
This is a fantastic EP that is not to be missed and you will find yourself a huge fan of this band when the music stops.
