Caviare Days - The Awakening EP

Caviare Days - The Awakening EP

Caviare Days is a psychedelic rock band fronted by Swedish sisters Lina and Maja Westin, the name comes from a line in ‘Tender Is The Night’ by F.S. Fitzgerald.

The band’s driving force lies in creating a well-tailored but dirty rock that is more baroque than minimalist and more organic than mechanical. They are known for their energetic and free-form live shows, mirroring a rock'n'roll tradition of bands like Jefferson Airplane backed up and intensified by a great deal of hair-flinging, head-banging moves - and some signature ass-shaking.

Their debut EP ‘The Awakening’ produced by Mats Björke of Mando Diao and Jorge Elbrecht of New York based Violens and mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios. The title track which created a buzz among music lovers and radio when it was released earlier this year in Sweden is replete with ethereal layers of spiralling guitars and reverb cleansed sexy allure.

The song is 'about waking up and realizing how much you've missed out on' say the band. 'It is also about the stress imposed in you as a member of a society where everything seems possible, but can't be lived out by everyone'.

Opening track ‘You’ll Qualify’ with its tangents of effervescent guitars is a bold song from the perspective of a female sexual predator finding a guy that suits her taste.

'When The Light Is Breaking' which the band describe as a song that 'celebrates the return of spring, a time for lovers' shows a lighter side of the band with a stunning baroque sound where the sisters soaring harmonies and a delicate spacious light soaked acoustic backdrop with occasional organ and guitar moments which circle and ever intensify.

Final track, ‘The Lucky Ones’ with it’s gorgeous harmonies and dirty stomping Kim Gordon style precociousness came to being as a result of a friendship between Caviare Days and the prominent American menswear designer Michael Bastian, who commissioned the song to go with his preppy mod collection for GANT fall/winter 2012. ).

It challenges the way Luck is perceived and pushes for a perspective where Luck is seen as something you earn rather than just get. It also celebrates individuality and the idea of standing out from a crowd.

Other than Lina and Maja, the band consists of Boris Grubesic on guitar, Marcus Arborelius och keyboards and Timmy Grim Fredriksson on drums. This fall, Caviare Days played at Stockholm Waterfront ** during fashion week, and also played a unique set of shows in Hamburg for Repeerbahn Festival, one in a bed, one in a brewery and one in a boat.

This striking EP is their debut UK release and comes out on 26th November on label259 Records.
